THE 17TH ANNUAL WOMEN AND WORK CONFERENCE
Name: THE 17TH ANNUAL WOMEN AND WORK CONFERENCE
Date: March 8, 2017
Time: 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM MST
The Idaho State University (ISU) Center for New Directions will present the 17th Annual Women and Work Conference This spring over 225 girls in grades 9 through 12 from regional high schools and community members will attend the Conference where they learn about occupations in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students are encouraged to invite their parent to come along too and attend a workshop to learn about careers that can provide a livable income, employment benefits, and a career ladder that can move women from a minimum wage job into an enjoyable and successful career. This year's keynote speaker is Krystal Chanda, Principal Partner at A&E Engineering, a licensed professional Civil engineer who served as the lead design engineer for the Portneuf Wellness Complex in addition to serving as the coordinator for the SE Idaho Regional MATHCOUNTS competition that recognizes middle school students excelling at math. Participants will explore a variety of topics, including, "Hands on Engineering Technologies" "Health Occupations," "Computer Aided Design Drafting." The girls will also roll up their sleeves during hands-on career exploration sessions as they tour ISU programs. A dynamic finale during each Conference is the Career Showcase presenting women in their occupational attire. This year, a grand prize $500 scholarship will be awarded to one lucky attendee for their fall, 2017 semester when they attend the Idaho State University College of Technology! Attendees leave inspired to consider the widest range of career paths. Several young women have returned to the Center for New Directions to enroll in a career path they discovered while attending a previous Conference.
