Event Description:
WACKY FIRE AND ICE WINTERFEST CELEBRATES COLD OF WINTER AND FUN IN LAVA HOT SPRINGS LAVA HOT SPRINGS, IDAHO—True to its name, the 2017 Fire & Ice Winterfest in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, on February 3, 4, & 5, 2017 will offer both freezing cold and smoking hot entertainment! In addition to all the popular events that have become standard fare, like the zany Polar Float Parade, fire performers from Lava Flow Fire are returning once again! There will also be a Northwest wine tasting, bingo, a hilarious comedy night, a super hero subzero endurance swim, a water carnival for the kids, a "Dive-in" movie, chili tasting, torch light parade with Chinese lanterns, casino night, a delicious American Legion pancake breakfast, the great rubber penguin race and of course the running of the bulls—Lava style! Pre-register for the events on www.fireice.lavahotsprings.org by January 31st and save $10. For only $45 you get admission to the Wine Tasting, Comedy Night, and Casino Night events and earn FREE admission to the Chili Tasting as well as a FREE Penguin to drop in the river for the prize race, plus, we'll set you up with double the chances of winning prizes at Casino Night! The festivities start Friday with a wine-tasting sampling Northwest wines and appetizers at the Riverside Inn, located on the banks of the Portneuf River, 255 E. Portneuf. You’ll enjoy red, white, and dessert wines, along with delicious appetizers. Included in the price is a Fire & Ice commemorative wine glass to take home. Pre-register online at www.fireice.lavahotsprings.org. Friday evening, choose from bingo, a "Dive-in" movie or comedy night. The Lava Lions/Lioness will host Bingo at 6pm at the Lava Community Building, 150 N. Center. The Bingo package includes 15 regular bingo games. Special games cost extra. Bring your entire Family out to the Lava Community Center for a fun filled evening. Everyone is welcome, however, to play Bingo you must be 18 years or older. Catch the "Dive-In" movie from 6-8pm at the indoor pool in the Lava Hot Springs Aquatic Center for $5. It's sure to be a splash! Then at 9pm, tickle your funny bone with the hilarious comedy of Guy Seidel and Craig Bielik! Guy won the 2015 Funniest Person In Utah competition and is the host of the popular Dirtpod Podcast. A self described "optimistic cynic," Guy's observational take on approaching middle-age, societal quirks and where life has taken him is not to be missed. Craig's “everyday guy style”, yet totally “wired up wrong” take on life combines with a “just talking with you” presentation to make Craig one of the most popular and approachable talents in the comedy game. Buy tickets online or at the door. Saturday morning begins with the Sub Zero Superhero Endurance Swim from 9-11am at the Lava Hot Springs Indoor Aquatic Center. Think of this like a community fun run…. but, swimming! Anyone can participate, but we recommend you possess the ability to swim strongly. Heroic efforts and costumes will be admired and given prizes both literal and figurative in nature. Pre-register by February 1st, 2017 for a $15 entry fee to guarantee event T-Shirt. Day-of “deck” registration available for $20 and probably includes T-Shirt, though sizing cannot be guaranteed. Download a registration form at LavaHotSprings.com. Or call/text KJ at (208) 251-5230 for more information. After the swim, a children’s Water Carnival will be held from 11am to 1pm. Admission is FREE for all ages. There will be games, prizes, and water fun. Events will be oriented towards a 12 and under crowd but all ages are welcome. Events include floating relays, wall climb races, diving contests, and a splash event. Saturday continues with one of our zaniest events—the Polar Float Parade—for those who dare to jump into the bone chilling Portneuf River on a float tube dressed in your craziest costume! All for a chance to win prizes and possibly international fame! In the past, we have seen wonderfully creative costumes, from the Easter Bunny to Santa Claus, to the infamous band KISS floating down the Portneuf. Prizes will be awarded for the best group costume (4 or more people) and best individual costume. $10 registration at Mountain Mayhem, 156 E. Main, includes tube rental. Be sure to register, sign a waiver and pick up your tube a few minutes early so you can be at the starting point by 2pm. The Polar Float Parade ends at the Community Building and all paid participants are welcome to soak in the Hot Pools at Lava Hot Springs Inn. After Saturday’s icy Polar Float Parade bring your taste buds to the Lava Community Building, 150 N. Center, for some chili tasting. For those entering chili, there will be a chance to earn cash prizes. Please let us know if you plan on bringing a pot of Chili by January 29th. For more information or to register your pot of chili call 208-220-0952. Contestants should have 5 quarts of chili to the Lava Community Building by 2pm. Taste sampling begins at 3:30pm and ends at 5pm or when the chili runs out. Cost for samplers is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 11 and under. Then enjoy another round of Bingo hosted by the Lava Lions/Lioness on Saturday night at 6pm. At dusk on Saturday evening and weather permitting, there will be fire in the sky! Watch the amazing torchlight parade as local daredevils ski down the “L" mountains with lit torches. Afterwards, fire performers from Lava Flow Fire will entertain your family through dance, acrobatics and music as they manipulate flaming objects. This will be great free entertainment for the whole family so bring the kids and enjoy the show! The show will be performed outside in the parking lot across from the Lava Community Building. Chinese Lanterns will be available for purchase at the Merchant Hut Friday and Saturday and will be released after the Fire Performers perform, weather permitting, at the Lava Community Building. Then it’s back to the Lava Community Building, 150 N. Center, at 8pm for a fun Casino Night, Vegas style! We'll play Twenty-one and Texas Hold 'Em for a chance at bragging rights and the coveted annual winners' trophy. All ages are invited. $15 at the door buys your set and puts your name in the drawing for some fantastic raffle prizes! For more info call Mark at (208)776-5221.
